It's time to zoom out of the battlefield of clashing opinions and into your dog's brain

Canine Decoded is leading the way.

Dr. Melanie Uhde

Founder | Trainer | Educator

Passionate canine educator, pioneer of innovative training programs, and speaker. Her unique approach is rooted in a deep understanding of dogs, encompassing their behavior, neurobiology, genetics, and motivation.

Her expertise and research on gut-immune-brain interactions in gastrointestinal and neuropsychiatric diseases at Columbia University have left a lasting impact on the field, with 16 peer-reviewed publications in prestigious scientific journals such as Brain Behavior and Immunity and Psychiatry Research.

With qualifications that include a Ph.D. in Natural Sciences and a Master's Degree in Biology, Dr. Melanie Uhde pushes the boundaries of behavior modification and training. She has worked with difficult rehab cases, pet dogs of all breeds and sizes, and consulted professional dog training organizations on best policies to ensure the welfare of dogs. Additionally, she completed advanced studies of anxiety disorders at Stanford University, further attesting to her dedication in the field.

But if there is one thing she can't live without (other than dogs), it's coffee, fiction books, and her loving husband.

STANDS AGAINST…

... outdated training approaches

... judgmental attitudes,

... and the 'get quick fixes' mentality rife with misleading claims.

We are seeking to create an atmosphere of confidence in dog owners to understand and guide their dogs, a modern dog training landscape filled with kindness, unity, and respect, and a world where dog ownership is about shared joy, love, and magical companionship rather than mere tools or methods.

A dangerous gap

From my beginnings in Germany, where I completed my Ph.D. in Natural Sciences, I moved to New York in 2014 to continue my research at Columbia University, diving deep into Neuroscience and Immunology.

Yet, a transformative experience in Thailand shifted my perspective: true academia should touch real lives.

My life took another turn with the adoption of my GSD, Harvey. Navigating the dog training universe, I saw a disturbing divide—many trainers prioritized methods over empathy.

This inspired Canine Decoded - a brand that intertwines science, empathy, and simplicity.

The need for change...

We firmly believe in the innate potential and power that each dog owner and professional possesses to positively transform their lives with their dogs. Instead of being dependent on others to effect this change for them, we guide and assist owners in instigating the desired change themselves.

We are convinced that every dog owner or professional has the potential to become an expert in handling their dog. Moreover, we believe this does not necessitate years of study, but rather requires keen observation, effective troubleshooting, and the careful implementation of personalized strategies. We are here for all of it. Every. Single. Day.

We firmly believe that judgment and belittlement of those lacking expertise serve no purpose. Instead, we encourage dog owners to confront their challenges and embark on this journey with us, reassuring them that they will never be alone.
